Floating on Air at Aria
High rollin' VT reader Blackjacker1979 is back again with a review of the much coveted Corner Suites at ARIA. Yummmmmy! Thanks Blackjacker for filing this great review with us!
Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you three things. I'm in love with all things design, I have a torrid affair with Las Vegas, and I am deeply in need of antipsychotic medication. In the case of the first two (and in some ways the third) the long awaited opening of Aria and the rest of the CityCenter complex couldn't have come soon enough for me. Hell they even interviewed me in the Review-Journal opening night, the result being a classic and completely relevant one liner that still brings gut laughter to my friends and family. I was in love with this place from the moment it was modeled in my head. Having two stays under my belt, the results are a hot topic of debate amongst many for good reason, but still I seek more.
On that front, I was giddy to find that this past weekend I was able to book through casino marketing, a Corner Suite at the clearance rack rate of $250 a night. Sure, the allure of the SkySuites and Cirrus Suites and Cumulus Suites and (insert weather reference) Suites are all fine and well, but these gems on the corners of each tower offer some of the most fantastic layouts I've seen outside of large high roller suites and Villas, albeit on a much smaller scale. One call and I'm booked, invited check in and all. Woohoo.

Now here's where the story takes a turn. In reality, I could review not one, but two suites here. The beauty of the Corner suite is that each one per floor is unique. My first one was a real beauty. But I spent less than 6 hours there. The room was plagued with technological and mechanical problems on a nightmarish scale. The Control 4 system (which I'm sure the will be dissected by many here in detail) was a bust, ceasing to function on an epic scale, thus leaving the entire room basically non-functional. Nary a tech nor an engineer nor an IT professional (who invited himself into the suite while I was in the shower) could fix the problem. Add to that a phantom who decided that the spa bath should turn on hourly for 5 minutes while I was at work.
A change request was in order.
